MS in Healthcare Research student, Ava Schroeder, has immersed herself in patient-centered outcomes research, collaborative scholarship, and academic leadership. Most recently, she was selected to present at the 2026 Spring New England American College of Sports Medicine Conference at Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts.

Geisel Community Celebrates Mental Health Awareness Month
During Mental Health Awareness Month in May, members of the Geisel School of Medicine community came together to promote connection, compassion, and wellbeing. Led by Geisel’s Office of Student Life in collaboration with Dartmouth Health & Wellness, the Geisel community participated in Kind30, a Dartmouth-wide initiative encouraging 30 intentional acts of kindness.

Shaping the Future of Health Science: Dartmouth Celebrates Student ILE Poster Session
At the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, the culmination of the Independent Integrated Learning Experience elective brought together the Dartmouth community for a dynamic poster session. The event showcased three terms of rigorous coursework and research, as residential MPH students presented original projects spanning a range of public health and health science topics.

Practicum Highlight: David Tuck, MPH ’26
David Tuck is an economist and technologist, serving as Chairman and CEO of ReCalibrateX and its health tech division, ReCalibrate Healthcare. As a MPH candidate at Geisel, David brings a unique perspective to his practicum work, where he explores how artificial intelligence could reshape when and how patients are reached.

Geisel School of Medicine Hosts Inaugural Health Sciences Case Competition
The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth recently hosted its inaugural Health Sciences Case Competition, a 40-hour event held April 17–19 that brought together curiosity, collaboration, and real-world problem solving. Over the course of the weekend, 24 students across eight multidisciplinary teams representing MS, MPH, and MD degree programs tackled a timely public health challenge.

Emilio Del Toro, MD '29 views medicine as rooted in connection. His passion is shaped by a commitment to compassionate, culturally grounded care, guided by what he calls the “Platinum Rule”: treating others as they want to be treated.

Student Spotlight: Jingyuan Zhang, MS ’28
Jingyuan Zhang is a tenure-track assistant professor in Special Education at East Tennessee State University. Her research focuses on implementing evidence-based mathematics interventions under the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support framework, with particular attention to implementation fidelity, adaptation, sustainability, and contextual fit in rural school settings.

Practicum Highlight: Kerrie Verbeek, MPH ’26
Through her Integrated Learning Experience (ILE), Kerrie Verbeek, an Online Hybrid MPH candidate at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine, is working to address food insecurity in oncology care. In partnership with Healing Harvest, a food pantry based at the Dartmouth Cancer Center, Kerrie’s work focuses on improving how providers identify and support cancer patients facing barriers to accessing nutrition.
