First Online MPH Class Gets Set to Graduate, Learn More about Their Dartmouth Institute Experience
The Dartmouth Institute is one of the foremost leaders in health systems research, education, and innovation. Clinicians, researchers, policy advisors, and recent graduates (among others) come here from throughout the U.S.—and around the world—to be part of a community that is committed to creating high-performing, equitable health systems, and to gain the skills they need to improve health and health care in their own communities. In 2016, the Institute created an online Master of Public Health (MPH) program to give more people the opportunity to get training in our pioneering research methods and learn from our renowned faculty of health care innovators. That first class of online MPH students, pioneers themselves, are about to graduate from the two-year program. Learn more about this dedicated group of professionals, and what they hope to accomplish with the skills and professional relationships they’ve developed here at The Dartmouth Institute.
Krysta Harvey, MPH'18
Hospital Administrative Services Manager
Lakin, Kansas
I came to The Dartmouth Institute to become a leader in creating a healthcare system built on sustainability and justice, to serve those who are poor, vulnerable, and marginalized—particularly in my home in frontier Kansas. Because we are a four-hour drive from any major city, residents in southwest Kansas are left truly without options if local hospitals and clinics fail. This program has equipped me to impact both the way rural Kansans receive care and the overall health of our population.
Jonathan Smith, MPH'18
Quality Improvement Advisor
Garden City, Kansas
I'm committed to ensuring that quality healthcare is accessible to everyone, regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or ability to pay for services. The education I've received at Dartmouth has equipped me with the skills necessary to honor my commitment, and to lead necessary change efforts in a broken healthcare system.
Aimee Greeley, MPH'18
Physical Therapist
White River Junction, Vermont
I was able to apply the skills I learned in The Dartmouth Institute’s online MPH program directly to my work as a physical therapist. I am excited to move forward with advancing my practice and leveraging physical therapy to advance public health initiatives.
Marisa Melamed, MPH'18
State Health Policy Advisor
Montpelier, Vermont
To lead change and make the healthcare system better, we must listen to what people need. As a state health policy advisor with an education from The Dartmouth Institute, I use my skills to better understand what makes people happy and healthy.
Sarah Kinsler, MPH'18
Health Policy Advisor
Montpelier, Vermont
The coursework in the (online) MPH allowed me to engage deeply with health care's big challenges, while applying key concepts to my work in Vermont in real time. I learned directly from faculty who have changed the field, from contributing to the passage of the Affordable Care Act to developing the innovative health care delivery models that Vermont is now implementing.
Karen George, MPH'18
Obstetrician Gynecologist
Washington, D.C.
I found mid-career that I needed new skills to solve some of the problems that I faced every day in my practice as an OB-GYN. The online program at The Dartmouth Institute allowed me to continue my work with new meaning through a policy lens.
