Dartmouth Institute MPH Student Spotlight: Melanie Wang
Melanie Wang’s passion for serving the healthcare industry stems from her time as an undergraduate volunteer at the Mott Children’s Hospital while attending The University of Michigan. Walking through the hospital, she became fascinated by the systems that enabled medical professionals to deliver high-quality care. She debated whether she could better serve the world by providing medical care to 10 patients a day or uncovering ways to improve productivity so that clinicians could serve twice that number. She decided she could make a greater impact if she helped optimize the broader healthcare system.
Prior to enrolling at Dartmouth, she spent five years in procurement consulting, helping supply chain teams across Fortune 500 clients transform their procurement organizations by delivering savings and impact. The joint MBA/MPH program at Tuck School of Business and The Dartmouth Institute was the perfect opportunity that would allow her to blend her interests, experience, and background, while fueling the transition to the next phase of her career in healthcare consulting. Wang spent the summer interning at Deloitte Consulting, advising a major health plan. She will be returning full-time to Deloitte after completing her MBA/MPH.

“At The Dartmouth Institute, I like that you’re getting a lot of diverse experiences but you’re also getting many structures for and approaches to tackling problems. Everyone’s focused on the same goal: How can we make an impact after a year of schooling here? What are we going to be able to translate and apply to the healthcare industry?”
