Megan Read, MPH, MLS, CIC, Presented with Outstanding Staff Award
Earlier this month, January 2024, the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Engagement at Geisel School of Medicine celebrated the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during its annual “I AM THE DREAM: Past, Present, and Future” awards luncheon. Barbara Ross-Lee, DO, FACOFP, was featured as the event's keynote speaker, the first Black woman to lead a medical school. Barbara is now the inaugural president of Maryland College of Osteopathic Medicine at Morgan State University.
The event was an excellent opportunity to recognize faculty, staff, students, and alumni of Geisel who have demonstrated the ideals, courage, compassion, dignity, humility, and service that exemplified King’s character and empowered his leadership. Megan Read was presented with an I AM THE DREAM Outstanding Staff Award.
More information on Megan and her journey to Geisel:
Megan Read, MPH, MLS, CIC, is the Director of the Hybrid MPH Program at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College. She has over 10 years of experience working with adult learners in both the healthcare and higher education environments, including curriculum design and instruction, program management and evaluation, and continuous improvement activities.
While working full-time, she completed her Master in Public Health (MPH) degree at the University of New Hampshire in 2014. She then transitioned into an infection prevention position in the Quality Assurance and Safety department at DHMC. As an infection preventionist, she was responsible for the surveillance, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of hospital-acquired infections at the hospital. She also collaborated with various departments throughout the medical center with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes. The multidisciplinary teams used evidence-based guidelines and process improvement tools to improve outcomes. In 2015, she received her Green Belt in Continuous Improvement from Dartmouth Hitchcock's Value Institute, and she continues to use the tools learned in that program on a regular basis.
After many years at DHMC, she decided to follow her passion for working with adult learners and transitioned to working in higher education at Dartmouth College in 2019. As the Director of the Hybrid MPH Program, she oversees the Hybrid MPH program planning development, implementation, evaluation, and improvement activities. She has the pleasure of working with students throughout their entire learning experience in the program.
Megan enjoys working on multidisciplinary teams, problem-solving, and improving outcomes. She values a positive, inclusive team environment where all voices are heard and respected. She takes these core values into the classroom, where one of her top priorities is to cultivate a positive, supportive, and inclusive learning environment. She strives to create a safe environment based on mutual respect and open-mindedness where all students can achieve academic success.
