Dartmouth’s MPH and MS Programs at The Geisel School of Medicine

Applying to Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine Health Sciences Masters Programs:
- Start your application in SOPHAS - the Centralized Application Service for Public Health and Health Sciences Graduate programs.
- Add your chosen Dartmouth program in SOPHAS under Dartmouth – Geisel School of Medicine Graduate Programs.
- Submit all application materials in SOPHAS through the Supporting Information and Program Materials.

Applicants interested in Dartmouth's Master of Public Health (MPH) or MS programs at the Geisel School of Medicine must fulfill the following criteria:
- A bachelor's degree must be conferred before attending Dartmouth.
- For the MPH, MS in Healthcare Research, and MS in Implementation Science programs, there are no specific undergraduate course requirements.
- The MS in Epidemiology, Health Data Science, and Medical Informatics programs suggest familiarity in: Computer Programming, and Statistics.
- No prior work experience is required; however, work experience, community service, or volunteer experience is encouraged.

The Personal Statement is the most important part of your application. It allows you to showcase your academic background, career aspirations, and why Dartmouth is the right fit for you. Your statement should highlight:
- Your academic and professional experiences that have shaped your interest in public health or health sciences.
- Specific Dartmouth programs, faculty, or research that align with your goals.
- How your background and aspirations contribute to Dartmouth’s learning community.
Submission Instructions:
Submit your statement in the SOPHAS Program Documents section, then upload a file under the Statement of Purpose and Objectives section.
Letters of recommendation play a crucial role in your application. They should come from individuals who can provide a thoughtful, thorough, and honest assessment of your academic abilities and potential to succeed in Dartmouth’s graduate programs.
- Choose recommenders who are familiar with your academic performance, research experience, or professional work.
- Request letters well in advance to ensure they have enough time to write and submit a comprehensive evaluation.
- After you provide SOPHAS with their email addresses, they will receive instructions on how to submit their recommendations electronically.
Who Should Write Your Letters?
- College seniors & recent graduates (within the last 12 months): Your letters should come from professors who can assess your academic performance and potential.
- Applicants out of college for more than one year: Recommendations should come from employment supervisors and/or professors who can evaluate your academic and professional skills.
Submission Tip: If SOPHAS requires three letters and you only have two, enter your own name as the third recommender to proceed with submission.

Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV) Submission: A current resume or CV must be submitted in the Supporting Information / Documents section of your application.
- Ensure your resume/CV is up to date and accurately reflects your academic and professional background.
- Highlight relevant experiences, research, publications, and certifications.
- Format your document clearly to enhance readability and professionalism.
What Should Your CV Include?
- Educational Background: Degrees earned, institutions attended, and relevant coursework.
- Professional Experience: Work history, internships, and relevant roles in public health or health sciences.
- Research & Publications: Any research projects, published papers, or contributions to academic work.
- Certifications & Licenses: Any relevant certifications or professional licenses.
- Volunteer Work & Leadership: Community involvement, volunteer roles, and leadership experience.
- Professional Affiliations: Membership in relevant organizations or societies.
Official Transcripts Submission: Applicants must submit official transcripts for all academic work toward any degree earned, including both undergraduate and graduate degrees.
- Submit transcripts through the Academic History section of your application.
- If you are currently enrolled in a degree program, submit a transcript that includes completed coursework and any in-progress courses.
- Institutions must send transcripts directly to SOPHAS using the Official Transcript Request Form. (Photocopies or student copies are not accepted.)
International Applicants: If you earned a degree from an institution outside the U.S. or Canada, you must provide an official WES evaluation for your application to be reviewed. Request that the evaluation be sent directly to SOPHAS.

GRE Scores
Applicants for the 2024-2025 admissions cycle have the option to submit valid (non-expired) GRE test scores for consideration.

TOEFL or IELTS
All non-native English speakers must submit either the TOEFL or IELTS to demonstrate English proficiency. Test results should not be more than two years old. This requirement is waived for applicants who received a degree from an institution outside the U.S. where instruction was conducted in English.
Minimum Score Requirements:
- TOEFL:
- Internet-based exam: 100
- Computer-based exam: 250
- Paper-based exam: 600
- IELTS: Minimum required score: 7

The SOPHAS application fee is required for all applicants. Please note: This fee is non-refundable and is not credited toward tuition or other student charges upon acceptance.
- Standard Fee: SOPHAS charges a base application fee.
- No Supplemental Fee: Dartmouth does not require an additional application fee beyond SOPHAS.
Fee Assistance Program
A limited number of fee waivers are available at the start of each application cycle. These waivers are provided on a first-come, first-served basis and are managed directly through SOPHAS.
- You may request a fee waiver as soon as you create your application.
- Fee waiver funds are limited and may run out quickly.
- Before submitting a fee waiver request, contact SOPHAS customer service to check availability.
