The Health Careers Institute at Dartmouth provides students entering grades 11th and 12th with opportunities to explore health careers and, of course, have fun!
The 2024 program will be offered June 24 – June 29, 2024.
Purpose
The Health Careers Institute at Dartmouth provides opportunities for high school students to explore different disciplines that contribute to the health care system. Participants have opportunities to interact with professionals working within the health care system such as: physicians and other direct care providers, research scientists, public health and health policy professionals.
Who Should Participate?
Typical Health Careers Institute participants have expressed interest in working in health care and want to know more about clinical and non-clinical health careers and what to do next to help narrow their focus or pursue their dreams.
What the Health Careers Institute at Dartmouth Offers
Outstanding Faculty
The faculty at the Health Careers Institute at Dartmouth includes health care professionals from the Dartmouth community, as well as colleagues from other educational and health institutions.
Exploration
Participants are provided the opportunity to learn about various disciplines and types of settings where health care is delivered. The areas students will explore range from direct health care (medicine, therapy, medical research, etc.), to public health and health policy. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and have a robust dialog with presenters, HCID faculty and their peers about health careers and explore what the health care system may look like in the future … and how they can potentially bring innovation into the system.
Learning Activities
Classroom instruction, a team-based research project, and dialogue with faculty and health profession students are all part of the experience.
College Immersion
Students live in a dorm on Dartmouth College campus during their time at Health Careers Institute at Dartmouth. In addition, time is dedicated to open discussion around the college application process.
