Geisel School of Medicine Hosts Spring Health Sciences Education Virtual Open House
The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth recently welcomed prospective and admitted students to its Spring Health Sciences Education Virtual Open House, a one-hour event designed to further introduce attendees to Geisel’s graduate programs in public health and health sciences. The session brought together admissions representatives, faculty, current students, and alumni from across Geisel for an overview of the program offerings and student experience.
The event opened with remarks from Associate Dean for Health Sciences Education Craig R. Westling, MS, MPH, DrPH, who congratulated admitted students and welcomed prospective applicants exploring graduate study at Dartmouth.
“Being admitted is an accomplishment, and it reflects the talent, commitment, and potential you would bring to this community,” Westling said. “Our programs are academically rigorous, but they are also personal. Students are challenged to do excellent work in a learning community where faculty and staff are invested in your growth, your goals, and your success.”
Westling highlighted the strengths of Geisel’s health sciences graduate programs, emphasizing small class sizes, close faculty mentorship, and a rigorous interdisciplinary curriculum designed to prepare students to lead — in health care, public health, research, policy, data science, and beyond.
“For many students, this becomes more than just a degree program. Dartmouth becomes a place where they sharpen their thinking, clarify their sense of purpose, and prepare for the next stage of their professional lives. So as you think about where you want to invest your time, energy, and talent, I would encourage you to think not only about the credential, but about the kind of community in which you want to learn and grow.”
Following the welcome, the admissions team provided a brief overview of the admissions process and logistics. Attendees then joined breakout sessions led by the program directors of their program of interest. In these smaller discussions, faculty offered deeper insight into curriculum, experiential learning opportunities, and the distinctive features of each program.
Current students and alumni also joined the breakout sessions, sharing perspectives on their experiences at Dartmouth and discussing how their graduate education has supported their professional goals after graduation. The open house concluded with an extended Q&A session with the admissions team, giving attendees the opportunity to ask additional questions about programs, applications, and student life.
The Health Sciences Education team extends its heartfelt thanks to the faculty, students, and alumni who participated in the event. Your willingness to share your time, experience, and expertise reflects the strength of the community that defines Dartmouth.
Prospective and admitted students interested in learning more about Dartmouth’s graduate programs are encouraged to attend upcoming admissions events. Details about future sessions and registration can be found on our admissions events page.
